We celebrated Thanksgiving early this year because we were all together. Phillip and Lydia, Megan and Robert, Ryan and Yvonne, Marilyn and Chris, and all our kids: Liam, Alice, Dylan, Brady, Catcher, and Lola. Everyone played so well together, endless fun with cousins!
We sure missed the rest of the family that couldn't be there!

We sure had a fun visit in Spokane, July 1013. Megan went golfing for the first time! We went up to a place in North Spokane. It was some good fun with Ryan (he taught us all how to golf), Chris, Megan and Robert. Grama Marilyn so wonderfully stayed home with the kids all day so we could play:)

Went to Discovery Park with Mekelle and Dylan. Even though it was wicked hot, they boys didn't play in the Splash pad much! Mekelle and Dylan snuck some pics with Megan's camera:

One of those events that a number of us at Fidelity have volunteered for is Hoopfest, the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world, held the last weekend in June in Spokane. Yes, the largest in the world! Ben Lyman and I are on the Site team, which consists of over 200 people that build the 40 block site on the streets of downtown Spokane on Friday night. Forklift drivers drop the basket structures with the Court Sponsor's name on the backboard in the exact spot on the map. Our crews put the pads around the structure and set up a table, chair, and trash can at each court for the weekend use of the court monitor. Other volunteers are laying down the tape on the street that surrounds the basket with the out of bounds and free throw lines. It is pretty amazing how working together we can 'build' 458 basketball courts in about 4 hours on Friday night. By 8 AM Saturday morning the 7046 teams and 27,876 players have started to arrive downtown to play over 14,000 games of basketball, watched by over 250,000 spectators over two days on the 458 courts that we had set up on Friday night. Craig Jones, Tom Schweifler, and Chris Carothers are three of the over 90 court marshals who supervise the over 600 court monitors who make sure the games are starting on time and the players are following the rules. Craig, Tom, and Chris are busy all weekend making sure things are running as smoothly as possible. Patti MacDougall manages a group of volunteers who get water and food to the court monitors."
Megan Potterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535105781047807532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-40589440766480341352011-07-18T15:51:00.000-07:002011-07-18T15:51:21.578-07:00Hoopfest cont."When the last games are over around 4 PM on Sunday, Ben and I meet our crews and we begin the task of tearing down everything that we had built on Friday night. The baskets structures, pads, tables, and chairs all get put back in storage for next year. All the tape on the streets is removed. And Riverfront Park is left as clean as we found it. By 10 pm, people are driving on the streets of downtown Spokane where 7 hours earlier there were hundreds of thousands of people of all ages enjoying street basketball on a sunny weekend in June in Downtown Spokane. Hoopfest is a big economic boost for Spokane and Hoopfest donates a portion of what it makes to a number of non profit organizations including Washington Special Olympics. Hoopfest would not happen without the thousands of volunteers. Craig, Tom, Chris, Ben, Patti and I are all proud to be a part of this great event."Megan Potterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535105781047807532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-77439280489443968192011-07-18T15:41:00.000-07:002011-07-18T16:01:59.280-07:00Hoopfest Employee Spotlight!

"In this photo: Chris Carothers, Tom Schweifler, Craig Jones

Employee Spotlight - Chris Carothers Chris has hung his hat at Fidelity Associates since May 2002. He has worked in the Personal Lines department the entire time as an account manager. His goal is to provide great customer service to every customer he comes in contact with. Prior to his time with Fidelity he spent 12 years working for Safeco Insurance in various positions including personal lines underwriter.Chris feels that every day at Fidelity is a new experience. 'No matter how long a person is involved in the insurance industry, there are always new and interesting situations that pop up. It's these kind of situations that keep you on your toes.' Chris has to stay on his toes to keep up with his busy schedule. His free time is spent in many different pursuits. He just completed his 19th year as a Spokane Hoopfest Volunteer. Hoopfest just held its 22nd annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament in downtown Spokane. He has been a high school wrestling official for 20 years. He has also volunteered his time and energies for 12 years as a Boy Scout leader. His most recent volunteer adventure is with the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System as a Master Composter. He volunteers his time teaching principles of recycling through composting. His knowledge of composting lends itself very nicely to his love of vegetable gardening. He is also a certified beekeeper and raises chickens."
Megan Potterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535105781047807532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-50413376062317188022010-12-27T23:18:00.000-08:002011-01-01T22:53:09.204-08:00Year Review 2010
We've had a good year! Here are some pics from the year 2010. One of the most recent events which is unfortunately not pictured is Phillip and Lydia's wedding!! They got married in the Rexburg Temple on December 18, 2010 and went to Mazatlan, Mexico on their honeymoon. They had their second reception here in Spokane after their honeymoon which was amazingly planned by Marilyn!! It was a Peaceful Winter Forest theme with lots of TREES in the cultural hall of the church making it a beautiful indoor FOREST! Phillip and Lydia are very happy and had a beautiful temple sealing. We all made it home alive after traveling in all the snowstorms over the holidays. Phew! Enjoy these few pics:

Brady and Dylan play so well together. Have you heard about Carson, Colton, and Cameron?" and I would add "Mekelle?".
So I skipped the reply text and just called him cause I knew there had to be some long explanation.
Man, I have sure been in my own world and out of the loop lately. So...Colton just had his appendix taken out; Carson just ran a marathon and Cameron and his wife Maggie are Preggie again. And Mekelle broke up with Matthew and he moved out and now she wants to move to Idaho?
Sheesh. Quite the news about everyone in one lump sum. I don't think I could handle it. I think because of the internet I communicate less with my family. Blasted facebook and blogs. Although they are great tools, if I get some sort of status update about my family I feel like I know what's going on and I don't need to call. But family, I'm sorry, but I do need to call more often. Sorry we haven't kept in better touch.

Congrats Carson, you are a stud, I can't believe you ran a marathon- I didn't even know you were training or thinking about that.
Colton, man I'm sorry you've not been feeling well, but I'm glad you're alive. I hope you have a good recovery and get back in shape for school. I love you and I'm gonna call you today.

love Hermana MeganMegan Potterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535105781047807532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-8223150007115338182009-08-24T23:29:00.000-07:002009-08-24T23:41:45.484-07:00Sometimes crappy projects are worth it.I'm on vacation this week (Aug 24-28). Got some projects I want to try to accomplish. One of them is the downstairs bathroom plumbing. I have procrastinated this one for over a year. So I decide to go get all the parts to do the job. I have to dig out more dirt on the outside of the basement wall where the plumbing is and discover that the septic pipe is broken. What??? Even though this is a "crappy job" (literally) it has to be done and I'm actually glad I was able to discover the break. Who knows how long the sewage had been leaking out into the ground. The pipe is about 4' down in the ground and had I not had the other leak (that was the plumbing problem in the first place) I would never have known our septic pipe line was broken. We have been without water and toilets since 5pm today (Monday 8/24). Hoping I can get it all put back together tomorrow.

Thanks to Ben who helped me do some of the digging. It helped me out a lot. Too bad he couldn't shower before going to FHE . lol.Chris Carothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170417191892248691noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-27941486044982443612009-07-29T13:33:00.000-07:002009-07-29T13:36:31.589-07:00Phil's CJ7 at Monkey Rock, near Rexburg, IDThe Montours and Carothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16411754193817136930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-37286646873017506882009-07-28T23:01:00.000-07:002009-07-29T21:19:26.049-07:00Dylans First Birthday! We celebrated Dylan's first birthday at our family reunion on the Oregon coast. He just started walking about a month ago. He is a great eater and loves food and loved his birthday cake! At his first birthday party we invited the "nieghbor campers" and played Duck-Duck-Goose and had an Elmo Pinyata! He got some new clothes, a pool, and stuffed animals and had lots of fun! I'm always worried he will get hungry or tired or cranky and I won't be able to properly meet his needs, for example on a hike right before his bedtime. But we went hiking anyway. Robert carried him in his carrier and while hiking fed him a bottle. It wasn't ideal, but it worked and Brady was happy the whole time. It was a blast and a great hike! It is so nice to be getting out and enjoying our summer even with Brady.

Megan Potterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535105781047807532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9162707370491676414.post-29850805445046157972009-06-08T12:31:00.000-07:002009-06-08T12:37:38.964-07:00Bienvenido:)Welcome family and friends!
